Apple may postpone plans for a VR AR headset

Plans for a high-definition (VR) / augmented reality (AR) headset from Apple are reportedly pushed back at least a year.

Bloomberg reports that the technical giant has software challenges that would delay the release of the headset until the end of this year or 2023. The delay is due to Apple's development team saying they have problems with the headset co. related to overheating and issues with the camera.

Even though Apple has not officially confirmed that a headset is in the works, Bloomberg said the company had plans to announce the product in June at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference.

Little is known about the headset, but reports suggest that it would be a virtual reality headset running on its own operating system and that VR / AR apps would be available for download from the App. Own store. The data revealed last year that the headset could have more than a dozen cameras, 8K displays, and an eye detector. However, those specs may have changed since then.

Bloomberg states that the first generation of this headset would be a "expensive, special" item costing more than $ 2,000 due to the introduction of powerful chips, high-resolution screens, and new audio technology. That $ 2,000 price tag would be significantly higher than competitors like the Meta's Oculus Quest 2 headset, which costs $ 300 to $ 400.

It's no surprise for Apple to enter the AR headset market as a tech company, especially since the market has started over the past year. According to Grand View Research, the VR headset market was $ 7.81 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow at a complex annual growth rate of 28.2% per year until 2028.
