Google Meet gets Companion Mode on Nest Hub Max for

Following the announcement of Companion Mode for Google Meet last September, Google is finally rolling out the new feature for Workspace accounts on devices like the Nest Hub Max.

Companion Mode is a neat feature launched by Google as a way to handle the new hybrid work that many of us have become accustomed to. It does this by allowing users to attend Google Meet meetings using high-end devices without the hassle or potential audio issues that may arise.

For example, if you are in a conference room at a meeting, you can use your Meet hardware to participate in using Companion Mode. This uses the audio and video from the conference room while still allowing you to participate in chats, polls, and other activities on your personal device.

Users can join a meeting in Companion Mode by visiting or on a similar hardware, the latter for those who want to share their screens.

Companion Mode is available online through Meet hardware and the Nest Hub Max. Google says these tools will receive suggestions "when sending chat messages or launching another interactive activity at a meeting."

Participants who join a meeting in Companion Mode will be identified as such in the roster, and each situation will count as a separate participant. These users will also be hidden from the meeting tiles unless they raise their hand "to increase the screen space for video feeds."

Google says that Companion Mode will be phased out starting January 13, while activity notifications on Meet hardware and Google 's best smart display will begin to appear from February 2nd.
