Following on from the Unic50 headphones that ended at CES 2022, Shure announced a cheaper offset sound option today. With the Aonic 40, the company is offering a design similar to their flagship model, maintaining adjustable active noise cancellation (ANC) and onboard controls with slightly more battery life than the 2022 version.

While the Aonic 40 starts at $ 150 less than its older brother did two years ago, the new model looks less. Shure selects a combination of aluminum and nylon, revisiting silver and black or sliver and white / tan color schemes from the Aonic 50. The 40's earbuds are flat-bottomed and folded inside for easy storage, uncluttered. making them good travel choices.

Shure says you can expect its “iconic sound” with a full-featured EQ through its ShurePlus Play app on Android and iOS. This software allows you to save any created options for future access. The app also lets you choose between three ANC options in addition to changing the Environment Mode (environment sound). Shure also claims that the software is equipped with a high-end music player that works with the Aonic 40.

As is typical with headphones these days, Shure takes a look at call quality thanks to dual-mode microphones. On-board controls allow you to easily respond to those, as well as resize and access both the ANC and ambient sound settings. The company claims to get up to 25 hours of battery life with active noise interruption - up from 20 hours on the Aonic 50. In addition, a fast charge option can offer five hours of use the 15 minutes.

The Aonic 40 is now available in black and white color options for $ 249.
