Wi-Fi networks are more important than ever with consumers pushing their Wi-Fi to a minimum with new devices and greater demand all the time. Wi-Fi Alliance is developing their Wi-Fi certification to meet this growing demand with Wi-Fi Certified 6 Release 2 supporting more uplink traffic as well as new power management features. These new features are supported across all bands with support for Wi-Fi 6 including 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz.

These upgrades are designed to ensure optimal performance while providing robust WPA3 security. Wi-Fi Alliance President and CEO Edgar Figueroa says these updates support the evolution of Wi-Fi to support today's needs.

Wi-Fi delivers advanced capabilities that have driven global innovation, paving the way for massive growth in Wi-Fi applications that consumers rely on every day. CERTIFIED Wi-Fi 6 Release 2 strengthens the evolution of Wi-Fi to meet the needs of today’s market, and supports high-performance Wi-Fi scenarios with increased capacity, efficiency and reliability.

The first major update supports enhanced uplink capability. Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 supports uplink multiplayer MIMO that allows multiple devices to upload data simultaneously to the access point. Wi-Fi networks have to handle more data upstream thanks to people uploading more data whether it’s working documents or sharing on social media. Uplink MIMO multiplayer can also improve network performance and reduce latency for video conferencing.

This new certification will also focus on power management features that will provide enhancements for devices in enterprise and IoT enterprises. This includes broadcast-to-air (TWT) wake-up time, extended sleep time, and dynamic multi-user multiplier (SMPS) multiplier power saving. This allows multiple devices to get extended sleep times with specific wake-up times for data transmission. It also allows chains to exert dynamics to maximize power consumption.
